In Response To: Noice (Aussie Accent) (Ghost Darkfire) : Very nice! However, I have one question... Will you, based on Halo 2's
Mothergoat doesn't buy games. He reviews games for lawrence.com so he gets many of them for free. ;) Personally, I won't buy Halo 3 without renting it first. I never imagined that I would say that, because I thought the first game was brilliant. Single player Halo 2 wasn't bad (although the "ending" sucked and the game wasn't nearly as long as we were led to believe), but the multiplayer is an absolute joke, especially with Bungie's ranked game settings. Custom gametypes can be made a little better, but unfortunately Bungie intentionally left out any kind of server browser for the express purpose of funnelling as many people as possible into the matchmaking games. Bungie's default gametypes are an interesting insight into what kinds of games Bungie thinks are fun. Apparently huge levels coupled with short range SMG spraying is fun to them. For the life of me, I cannot understand WTH they were thinking in making the SMG the default gun for maps like Coagulation (or why they thought the Plasma Pistol was a great starting weapon for BG in Halo 1). People say, "Just pick up a Battle Rifle" but half the time it's already taken, and even if you do grab it, you'll be out of ammo pretty soon because every dead player is dropping SMG ammo. And in Rumble Pit games, all you do is pray you spawn near a decent weapon upgrade, or just run around spamming your SMG into crowds of people. No aiming required. Ugh. Last week in the Rumble Pit I finally got exasperated and just yelled at the TV, "Is this what you consider fun, Bungie?" There's an interesting thread on the topic of Bungie's gametypes by Strangepurple (one of the top 5 Halo 1 players) over at the mlgpro.com forums. He makes some good points in a fair, calm way about why the ranked gametype settings are awful. |
