In Response To: Mothergoat's Second Opinion of Halo 2 (mothergoat) By far the best post that I have read. Your POV on this is correct: everything boils down to how fun the moment is. Nothing more, nothing less. If a gameplay aspect limits the fun factor for a given moment in time, that's a bad thing. I was playing team slayer on Ascention this morning - I was the last person on my team. Everyone else bailed. The other team had the both snipers, the rocket and the banshee. Now, in Halo 1 multiplayer, I'd have a fighting chance - the pistol. Here, no chance whatsoever. It was pathetic. Double wield the SMG, when I'm getting sniped? Throw grenades? I used to be able to land a grenade anywhere because the relationship between the reticle and grenade arc was predictable. But with the puny grenade damage - stealth throw and duck is no longer as effective. No more flying warthogs. No more splash damage from the rocket launcher. I think the real question here is, is Bungie willing to roll back the changes they have made for Halo 3? Make an engine-level overhaul? I hate to end on a cynical note, but... There's some good news. One game that's coming out HAS the original Halo engine: Stubbs the Zombie. Ouch. That hurts more than just the title. |
