In Response To: Mothergoat's Second Opinion of Halo 2 (mothergoat) The first Halo game was pure genious. When it was released it was one of the rare FPS that actually had a story, and that story to this day still happens to be incredible. Add on top of that epic gameplay and massive indoor and outdoor environments, and you've got yourself a winner. Newer games still have a hard time recreating what Halo did. That being said, I played through Halo 2 and had alot of fun with it. The gameplay (Dual weilding and vehicle boarding is great fun, at least in single player, although i never dual wield in herioc or legendary) and graphics are vastly improved, but the environments rarely reached the vastness of the first game. Frankly, it felt claustraphobic at times. And then theres the story. I'll admit, I sat down and played through the campaign almost straight through. I sat at the edge of my seat almost the entire time and really enjoyed myself. And then i got to what felt like 75% through the game and the credits rolled. I jumped up into the air, threw my controller down and blurted out a string a explatives. As I played through the campaign again, I started to notice how smart the AI was, the hilariousness of the marines (they had me rolling on the floor sometimes) and the lack of really an epic feel the demo at E3 showed. I would go so far as to say that the E3 demo was misleading. Our time on Earth felt a bit short and it didnt feel like the combat zone it should have been. There was no wounded soilders, no covenant artillery pieces, no human airstrikes. I didnt feel like i was fighting off an invasion so much as just sweeping away enemies. So I guess my question is, what happened? I dont pretend to know how much effort and time goes into making a game. And i dont pretend to have the technical skills needed to even start. But in my humble opinion, Halo 2 rocks. At the same time the things i was looking forward to (and enjoyed from the first game -the story, massive level designs, epic scripted events) the most just weren't there.
