1. I disagree. The pistol really did reward skill, because instead of just shooting in a general direction, each shot you fired had to be well placed... not just on the enemy, but on his head/shoulder area. And I do not think I have EVER seen anyone camp with a pistol. I usually only saw them camp with a rocket launcher or sniper rifle and a couple grenades. Even if someone did camp with a pistol, you'd have to be skilled with it because once your enemy finds your position it's a normal shoot-out. The pistol was a great weapon in Multiplayer and Campaign alike, hence why it was the first weapon you ever touched in Halo. I don't think the pistol was a mistake in any shape or form, and I will miss it. 2. When you're playing a good game, and things heat up into one of those memorable one room slaughter houses, the last thing you want to spawn with is the weakest weapon in the game. I mean, once you spawn, your ass gets handed to you... it's like you're punished for spawning. Spawning with a strong weapon, I think, is key to fun games, because then everyone's not just looking for weapons, they're competing to survive. 3. The battle rifle was disappointing to me, both in campaign and multiplayer. I do enjoy the burst-fire, but the fact that it takes forever before your enemy's shield go down is annoying. In no way is the battle rifle like the pistol except in maybe range and accuracy. Your enemies move around so much that in each burst you usually only land like one or two good hits (and it doesn't seem to really matter where on the enemy's body those hits are) so by the time your opponent's shield is down, you are reloading and they can just take cover and recharge their sheild. Pat yourself on your back, you've just accomplished nothing. 4. Yes, the vehicles are nice... but the handling is horrible. I've never seen so many people running into things in my life. It seems that when strafing with the ghost, you move slower than strafing on foot. I don't know what happened there. The warthog's jumpy steering and inability to drive over and semi-rough terrain scares me. On Coagulation, I went to drive over this small bump near the cliffs, and was met with a loud crashing sound and a weird wreck. The warthog is no longer truly offroad. I do enjoy hijacking though. But I miss the power of Halo 1 grenades. Yes, they're frag grenades and they aren't REALISTICALLY supposed to be very effective... but if they're just frag grenades why did they give them to us to fight enemies with shields who are covered in thick armor. I think Halo 1 grenades were as powerful as they were because this game was set in the future, where we found out that normal frag grenades weren't too effective with new enemies. Halo 2 frag grenades also seem just a bit too bouncy to me. 5. I strongly disagree with this. In Halo 1, I could go back to every level over and over and it would never get old. I would crave playing a level that I just beat. It had an extremely good replay factor. Halo 2 is more based on set situations where you have very very specific objectives, so there isn't much room for creativity. In Halo 1, it was just pretty much "Find Keyes, get him the hell out." and personally, I loved that. You weren't confined to small areas either. In Halo 2, you can't really be like,"Well, I think this time I want to go this way to sneak around back of my enemies.." and that sort of thing. I don't really thrive on going back to play Halo 2 campaign, and Halo 1 campaign is still more welcoming. Now, I know that everything that I have just said probably sounded extremely negative toward Halo 2, but in truth... I do love the game. I don't like people bashing on it a whole lot and saying that it sucks so bad... but I do have an opinion of where it stands compared to Halo 1. I just can't help it though, Halo 1 is hands-down my all time favorite. |
