In Response To: Mothergoat's Second Opinion of Halo 2 (mothergoat) I'd just like to thank you for writing this thoughtful opinion. I feel you have communicated clearly several aspects of Halo 2's gameplay that make it fall a little short of the original masterpiece. In multiplayer I think it is incredibly fun, but not quite as engaging as the first, and I believe the biggest reason for this is the deemphasis on the grenades. Two other changes that I feel negatively impacted the intensity. Absence of Fall Damage - With the more multi-tiered levels and addition of gravity lifts, I think that they should have reduced fall damage, but not completly eliminated it. When I'm flying in the Banshee at highest point of the level and I drop 200 ft and hit the ground with no shield drop or red flash of the screen or sudden jolt, it makes me feel like I'm playing a beta version of the game. Lack of Health Bar - In Halo some of the most intense moments were when you were down to only a bar of health, but you managed to pull of that final headshot to finish off your opponent. Halo 2 lacks these moments. However, I do not agree with you on the Rocket Launcher. Since there is now no quick killing mid-range weapon, the more powerful Rocket Launcher of Halo 1 would have been completely unstoppable in one on one situations. |
