In Response To: Mothergoat's Second Opinion of Halo 2 (mothergoat) My feelings on Halo 2 are pretty much summed up in this:
If I could talk to Bungie, I wouldn't even mention my faults with Halo 2. Not that I don't think they're relevant or anything like that, but because I feel like they did a great job. There's an incredible amount of pressure to follow up on a game like Halo, whose remarkable unremarkability made it an instant classic. There was nothing NEW about the original Halo, really... just, the level of detail and love and time put into it, being able to explore or go anywhere or do anything with the superb physics engine, made it so much more. I have gripes with the pistol being gone, but the new pistol is pretty cool, I guess, but what I really miss are the potent grenades. Sure, these grenades are fairly powerful, but their range is absolutely ridiculous. While I agree that their range was a little overpowered in the original, the drastic decrease in range has ruined their old effectiveness. I love dual-wielding, and I don't think it necessarily ruins single-wielding, except that with grenades weakened, there's really no incentive to using a single-wield weapon, unless it's a rocket launcher, shotgun, sword, etcetera. That and the hanging ending are my largest annoyances. An A+ game, but a disappointing successor. |
