In Response To: Re: Halo 2 was rushed? What about Halo 1?!?! (jfitzell) : However I have to disagree with your comment about the pistol whore's. For
Most Definitely! I don't think "pistol whores" (a term I actually use jokingly) are cheap or unskilled players. I know it takes a lot of skill to use the pistol, and I can still own a noob with a pistol using any of the weapons on a given map. And it's not that I think the pistol unbalances the game in favor of any specific player, because, as you stated, everyone has it from scratch. But, the problem is, that when you have someone who likes to play with the pistol, and is good at it, you are forced to use the pistol yourself. I like the MD6 pistol, I am good using it, but what I loved about Halo multiplayer was it's strategic advance/retreat gameplay and it's excellent use of grenades and vehicles. The pistol kills very fast and therefore eliminates all that for me. That's why I personally try not to use it that much (even though I know I'd have a great edge if I did). It's just plain boring to play match after match after match where EVERYONE has to use the MD6 pistol just because there is one player who loves to use it. It would be great if you could stop that player with your other weapons (and believe me I tried, I even started using the Assault Rifle in short, quick bursts to the head to some decent effect), but ultimately the edge of the pistol is too hard to overcome. Two players of equal skills, one using the pistol, one not: the player with the pistol will always win. Halo 2 multiplayer: Yes, the sword is unbalanced, although I think they meant it that way. There is only one on each map, one player gets it, goes on a killin spree, other players organize themselves, and kill the mother. Personally, I find it a little annoying yes, and wish it could be removed, but overall it annoys me a lot less because only one person at a time can use it, making it a "power-up" of sorts. Frankly, I haven't noticed what you state about the shotgun. Others have complained about dual wielding also making the game unbalanced. I hardly use dual wielding (I hate it because I can't use my grenades, and will only dual-wield if I'm 'nadeless), and still get good results. I love the Battle Rifle (similar to the pistol, but not quite as unbalanced), and I get incredible result by using it or two MC6 pistols. In fact, if you aim well, you can kill people incredibly well with two MC6 pistols, except that you can't kill them halfway through Blood Gulch, which is a good thing gameplaywise. |
