In Response To: Mothergoat's Second Opinion of Halo 2 (mothergoat) I agree with a lot of your complaints about the campaign, but with a few discrepencies. I thought the levels were far bigger. Thing is, you can't really explore 95% of them. The Forerunner structure on Threshold was HUGE- one of my favorite levels (and favorite moments =)), but others, like the gondola ride on Delta Halo (another great moment =)) were very confining. A step down? Not necessarily. See, tight areas create heated firefights. But the wide open areas were a Halo trademark. Quarantine Zone tries to compensate for it, but it really doesn't give too much freedom- particularly because it all takes place on the ground, whereas Assault on the Control Room was an extremely open, multi-tiered level. Halo 2 also seemed to be missing the epic battles of the first game. That was my biggest disappointment. Where are the dozens of ground troops diving away from your Warthog as you drive through the middle of an encampment, dodging Wraith mortars and trailing a Banshee while your gunner yells wisecracks from the back? Ah, those were the moments I was expecting. But they never happened. I thought the story was very well put together, however, and I honestly can't see where the complaints about it are coming from. What is there not to understand? For your multiplayer complaints, however, I completely disagree. The weapons have never been more balanced. I don't like how little grenades affect vehicles, but boarding them seems to be its replacement. I love the new physics and vehicle controls. And who says dual wielding is over-powering? The maps aren't designed well? What?! Ah- I had to make a double take when I read that. I've never had more fun finding a vantage point in an online game before. The maps are brilliant. My least favorite would have to be Midship. It's just.. I don't know. It doesn't have the charm the others do. It's too... purple, maybe? I just don't find it as fun.
