In Response To: Mothergoat's Second Opinion of Halo 2 (mothergoat) Let me start by saying that I actually disagree with much of what you said, partly for your reasoning and partly for the points themselves. Of course, some of your beefs are in line with my own, and some are not -- subjective opinions -- but the core of your thesis seems to be that Halo 2 dropped the ball by not being Halo 1. I agree it's possible that they could potentially have done something better by trying to emulate the first game more, but they didn't, and I respect that; they went for a different game, and "it was good enough before" wasn't considered a factor. Of course, the question then becomes whether the new game is actually as good (in its own way) as the old, and that's a different matter. I do think that it's not as well done. But I wouldn't have wanted a "Halo 1 -- and More" sequel. Who dares wins, even if daring badly. : The new Banshee handling is bad. It can no longer hover. Worried about
Perhaps more accurately, "Banshee whoring" (meaning dominating a game through use of the Banshee) certainly did happen -- hey, me and mine would probably be convicted in any court -- but only to the same extent that you could dominate in practically any manner. That is to say, one guy could kick ass with the Banshee, but another guy could do it with the tank, and another with the pistol, and he could do it by sniping, and they could do it with voice coms and teamwork, and that dude can do it by drinking twelve Pepsi and seeing everything in slow-motion. I respect that they chose the change the balance in this way, though of course I'm annoyed about the loss of my purple baby, but complaining about a change just because it IS a change is no brighter than complaining about the original state just because you didn't want to deal with anyone who beat you differently than you lost to them.
