In Response To: Re: Halo 2 was rushed? What about Halo 1?!?! (madcowjim) :As a result of this new design many people feel the game lost it's non-linear touch. You go into a room and feel like the designers made it to be played that way. Didn't feel like that at all personally. I always found alternate routes, turrets scattered everywhere, good sniping locations, several paths for my tank etc. Yes, a few of the outdoor levels were a little cramped, but others were not (Quarantine zone, Uprising), and the cramped vehicular combat gave me a different battle experience. Is still own Halo 1, so when I feel like playing Assault on the Control Room I just do so, when I want to play the awesome Metropolis, or Uprising, or Quarantine Zone, I put in Halo 2, I don't see what the problem with a different game experience is as long as it's good, and to me Halo 2 is VERY good. : I liked the pistol. You didn't. That doesn't mean it sucked, you just have a
It's not that I didn't like the pistol, I LOVED the pistol. Except that I also loved every other weapon Bungie designed. While in Single Player all weapons had their place, in Multiplayer it was a diffferent story: A) Covenant weapons sucked B) The pistol dominated every other weapon. As I repeat, having a skilled pistol player on a map meant that everyone else WAS FORCED to used the pistol or perish. I am a skilled Pistol player, but for balance reason and game enjoyment, I use it in very few occasions (generally when I'm losing ;) ). When my friend Mark, who loves to use the pistol constantly, came to play, every one else had to use the pistol. Is it nice that because one out of 8 players uses a weapon, everyone else is forced to as well? NO. No matter how much you liked that weapon, that does not change the fact that it was flawed design, which a few months more in development would have changed. Furthermore, Bungie knew that, despite it being an unbalanced weapon, many people loved it, and knew that many people loved the Assault Rifle but it was crap in Halo 1. So, they had a genial idea: Let's fix the gameplay and please the fans. Let's make the Battle rifle!!!!! It's better than the assault rifle, not as exaggeratedly powerful as the pistol. That way, we can remove the unblanced pistol from the game, but still have a cool 2x weapon in it. But try as they might, Bungie could not please it's rabid fans, who wanted more pistol sniping, and also wanted levels the size of africa where you had to actually walk 3 hours before you spotted the Covenant miles down a huge crater that contained all of Halo 1, and you could actually see the Assault on the Control Room level in the distance. So, the rabid fan slowly walks for another 3 hours in the direction of AotCR and reaches it just in time to save the ODST soldier by the flipped Warthog. What does this rabid fan do? He saves them and plays through Assault on the Control Room over again, that's what he wanted out of Halo 2 anyway. And everyone lived happily everafter. THE END |
