: The harder parts do not get easier: they get HARDER because they become more
Some of that complexity will be absorbed and come "out of box," though. I can do some amazing things with photoshop elements with the click of button that would have taken a lot more skill and time five years ago. And there are limits to how much detail the eye can perceive. The ability to iterate instantly, to experiment and see what works in a matter of hours, not weeks--this is what I'm talking about. You're right about the complexity--that's what I meant by 3-D chess. Creating the kind of game we're talking about will always be harder than film--there are so many more variables. Graphics and scope require the most resources, and that's the kind of stuff people love to see improve right now, but I can see the pendulum swinging the other way, especially when every game is a photorealistic Skyrim, and that's where we're headed. Someone will do something as innovative as Deus Ex. Mark my words.
