Yes - definitely. The characters aren't real, they're simply devices to explore vistas. Now I can live with that, mostly. Legends and myths, verbal stories, they all work because you use tropes to explore ideas. It's a different kind of story from the ones I like to tell and to hear, but I accept what they are. Whether or not Prometheus intended that is another debate. But yes, personally I would have enjoyed the film much more were the characters interesting. To me,
Very much so. I watched Alien the other night with my little sister (who had never seen it but had just seen Prometheus - interestingly, she guessed a few plot twists, like Ash, because of Prometheus. I actually felt Alien led on really well after Prometheus, because the characters were so much more real and interesting, it was what happens when reality meets myth, but this is all another debate entirely). Anyway, Alien was much more slow and tense. It takes forever for something to actually happen! And all the time you're waiting to be spooked. : micro-organisms could still be present. Nitpick I know, but...) The storm
NOT a nitpick. I went to see this with three other scientists and we were all headpalming the whole way through. : So now comes act 3. Shaw joins the expedition to the structure, because,
This was all . . . I don't know. It felt quite dreamlike, seen through anaesthesia and pain and Shaw's eyes. Structureless. I really liked your thoughts. You definitely figured out a lot of the 'suck' reasons
