In Response To: Re: Cody Miller: No story in my entertainment plea (Kermit) : Maybe you're right, but if that's the case, so be it. I see games as being : very similar to film in that it will become technically easier and cheaper : to make games in the future. This is a misunderstanding. Films and games are dramatically different in their creation. For a film, the quality depends on the imagination of the writer, and execution by the production and post production crew. It is not any more expensive to write and film gripping story than it is to write a bad one. You can easily spend little money to make a good film, because the quality of the story has little to do with how much you spend. For a game, the quality depends on the complexity. This means that to make a game tomorrow better than those today, it must be more complex. This DOES cost more money, since people need to create more art, work out more advanced algorithms, design larger more intricate levels, etc. The complexity of a game is very much correlated to how much is spent. : That's what I meant about resources. As the
The harder parts do not get easier: they get HARDER because they become more complex. AI scripting is much harder now than before, because AI is better. Graphics programming is harder now than before, because graphics are better. Level design is harder now than before, because levels are bigger. Animating characters is harder now than before, because the animation is more detailed.
