In Response To: Re: Hey Wu...? (Revenant1988) : This surprised me, I actually figured you'd be a supporter of invasion. You : might be missing out on the discussion- Bluerunner has a pretty good : wishlist thread on the subject and a few folks (myself included) are : suggesting different means of earning points to make it more interesting. I read it. As a theoretical discussion, it was a fine set of suggestions - but I can't see any way they'd be implemented at this stage in Reach's lifecycle, so it's not really relevant in the context of my lack of interest. ;) : So, why do you find invasion to be dull? I will admit, that at this point
I've only got a few dozen Invasion games on my Reach record - but it's been enough to show me that the game plays out the same way most of the time. There aren't many alternatives for each stage - I haven't seen (or heard about) clever options for capture or defense at any level. On offense, you rush and try to gain time, on defense you try to keep people from getting to the objective spots. There aren't sneaky routes you can take, there aren't a huge variety of choices when thinking about how to attack (or defend). All the games seem to play out much the same. I don't know WHY this is - I don't find this to be true of Flag games, or Bomb games, or any other objective games, really - it just is. Clearly, not everyone feels this way. : I will say this: The most fun that I've EVER had in invasion has been when
Yeah, there's this. I haven't gone into the Invasion list alone very often, however; I've won 27 of 31 games in the regular list (a FAR greater win percentage than ANY other gametype), and the only way this could be true is if I'd usually been playing with a team. So for me, I guess, even going in not-alone isn't enough. : You played a few games with us, what did you think of them? I thought the
I enjoyed the games we played - but more for the company than the games themselves. I was pretty Invasioned-out by the end of that evening; I could happily go another few months without another one. ;) Winning/losing doesn't really play into it - it's more about the feeling that I'm locked into a role when I play, that I don't have real choices.
