What if Invasion didn't mean taking turns? | |

In Response To: Re: Agreed. (Apirishin) Let's say you're on Boneyard. Spartans spawn in the base, Elites spawn at the supply depot. There are two neutral territories inside the derelict on the far opposite rooms (not the central corridor). Capturing a territory establishes a foothold; capturing both denies your enemy their own foothold. These can be traded off as the game plays out, but as soon as one or the other is captured by either team, Phase 2 begins for both. A data core spawns in both bases and must be retrieved, a la CTF. The addition of vehicles opens up the entire battlefield, but still keeps the majority of encounters in the middle. Whichever team captures the core first is granted a bomb, which must be planted in the middle of the derelict. (Assume the explosion would wipe out both footholds and allow the victor time for extraction.) Points would be awarded for capturing territories, capturing cores, and planting/disarming the bomb, and detonating the bomb (which itself instantly ends the game). But since territories can be traded, if Red Team detonates the bomb, but Blue Team captures the Red foothold first, Blue can force a tie. Conversely, if Red Team can plant the bomb but Blue Team keeps disarming it, the game can continue until time expires, at which the point leader wins. I'll admit, plenty of flaws there, but more flexible maps and more variety of objectives could make Invasion really interesting.
