After all, : I suppose I'm on the wrong side of that argument, seeing that I only write : about films and games and don't actually make them. No, lets. That seems to be the whole point here. Anyone who claims to be the arbiter of what is art, what isn't and what can and can't be is deluding themselves. As you and many others have pointed out, games are in their infancy and thus thier social relevance and ability to be art are TBD. Eberts comments are brash, ridiculous and the verbal equivelant of pissing on the cave wall. Writing a review is one thing, purporting to define the merit or value of an artistic object or even an entire medium is quite another. Art, like beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I am sure that there are many out there who would say that some games are already works of art. This debate is as old as art itself. That should tell you something.
