In Response To: Re: Is a rose by any other name... (Pak) : What if a someone has set out to please another person, and choses art as a
An artist creates because they can, because they feel inspired to create. An artist has creativity as a piece of their life, it is always there and cannot be separated from them. Someone who creates art can become an artist for a time, but if it isn't in their heart to be creative, they can at best only be part time artists. : But is the cookie cutter itself not a peice of art? Is it not artful and wise
The person who first created the cookie cutter shape is creating art. But those that use that cookie cutter are only creating immitations of the original. You can call that art if you want, but it doesn't take as much if any creativity to use the cookie cutter to create the shape. The art truly is what the person adds to the cookie, beyond the cookie cutter. The decorations and designs they add. Then it is more a piece of art as it was created using creativity and not just an immitation of something else. : Only a fool of an artist would let his tools hurt him. The critic is the
Art is very personal, people take their creations personally. It is because it comes from the heart. An artist can learn to appreciate criticism, but that is a learned response, not natural at first. : What of commercial artists? Their job is to communicate, but does having a
Some of the greatest acknowledged pieces of art known today were created with political or social messages. They are still considered art nevertheless. We must consider that although what is art is highly subjective, that there are expert and ruling bodies that define what is and isn't art in the legal and moral sense. Art by committee as some call it. For instance, some call pornography art, others call it immoral and not art. A group of people got together and defined the legal aspects of this. However, the opinions of the people are still heard on the subject. What is not art today may be decided by committee to be art tomorrow and vica versa. We have the FREEDOM to decide what we consider art, we also have legal and other definitions of what is and isn't art for practical purposes. I can't legally sell nuclear waste to foreign countries as art simply to get around the law, for example. Nuclear waste is still nuclear waste and I can't ship it no matter what I call it. When certain grants are given to fund art programs, people have to decide what really is art and thus what is eligible for the grants... we are talking real money here and so it is very important the definition is clear. But does the fact that my planned "Halo.bungie.org hot tub movie" isn't considered art by some national art foundation? I and others can still consider it art, I just won't be getting any grants for it. : You only listen to those with great autrhority in your social group. Believe
Such may be, but I consider thinking outside the box as a requirement in life. Conformity in actions is necessary much of the time for safety reasons, but conformity in thought is brainwashing.
