Parts of the brain are : considered the creative or artistic portions. Art is what exercises or : stimulates these parts of the brain. If it doesn't, then it is not of artistic value to that person. I don't think it's right to say that if someone doesn't like a piece of art, or doesn't get it, then it's not art "to them." This is basically disrespecting the achievement the artist put into it. People spend their entire lives studying art and producing art — you don't think that a person's uneducatedness, chemical imbalance in his brain, etc., could nullify the validity of that person's opinion? Saying, "Art is subjective," is a cop-out designed to ignore the question of the King's clothes. The fact of the matter is that we're all schooled in arts, and can't make judgements about it that are as accurate, skilled, or insightful as those who can. Nullifying their schooling for personal ego is ignorant at best. : The combatants were the artists, they were also entertainers, and they were : fighters and in many cases killers. : Look at martial arts. For many reasons it is the learning of combat, but in : order to excel in combat, one has to be creative and not just be : complacent to be a predictable robot throwing punch, punch, kick all the : time. This creativity is what inspires the artist, and is applied very : real to combat. Someone being good at killing someone else does not make them an artist. In this way, serial killers are artists. Serial killers often have significant brain disorders that allow them to be as effective as they are — antisocial tendencies, etc. Who is the artist in this case, when even the serial killer himself cannot take full responsibility for the actions of his murders, given that there was a predisposition to not valuing the lives of others? Who is the audience in this situation, given that the majority of humans find it morally repugnant?
