A little speculation *Spoilers* Part 1 | |

Okay. So I've been trying to reconcile, in my mind, the plot hole in Halo 3's ending. That being, the reasoning behind firing the single Halo ring. If they planned to fire the ring, and then escape. The Halo would have no effect on the flood, as it only kills their food, And the flood would just follow them through the portal back to earth. On the other hand, If Cortana had prior knowledge that firing it would destroy the Halo, the Ark and the Portal along with all the surviving flood, it would explain why they lit the ring in the first place. However, Cortana specifically states that she DOESN'T have any knowledge of what will happen to the Halo ring when it fires. Which rules this explanation out. The only way I can make sense of it, is if the Halo kills the Flood AND their food. Though it is stated In Halo 1 & 2 that the rings only kill their food. However, I pondered over this for a while and then came to the conclusion that the Halo rings must kill flood forms that are the result of an infection, as opposed to structured flood super cells, like the infection form or pure forms. PART 2 - In next post.
