In Response To: A little speculation *Spoilers* Part 1 (Dubble.utoo) In this case, lighting the ring would kill off the combat forms and carrier forms (as they are technically still 'food' for the flood, just augmented with super cell structures) which would leave the flood with only the Infection forms, and a gravemind that has nothing more to assimilate and thus, the flood has no means to invade starships or other means of transport to follow the Humans and Elites through the portal in the event that the Halo fired successfully. However, Cortana's line from Halo 1 "The only way to stop the flood is to starve them to death" conflicts with this, as killing everything except the infection forms isn't really starving them to death. Though the infection formswould require hosts as food to survive, and would then starve to death at the removal of all food sources, survived only by infection forms kept in stasis, and the now gimped gravemind. This has been a long and complicated post, so, Is this scenario obvious and Iv'e just been missing something? Or Am I just completley ignorant?
