In Response To: Re: On the Relationship Between Halos and Flood *l (Ciarán) : So, what if the Halos use the Flood's instantaneous communications method, : but amplify it somehow, so that they send out some kind of "psychic : blast" that fries the brains and/or nervous systems of any sentient : creatures in range - the Flood's food - and maybe also the Flood : themselves within range? But to do this, maybe they needed the Flood : themselves, and this explains why they had to keep samples of the Flood, : and the laboratory rooms in the 343 Guilty Spark level - they were working : out ways of triggering this blast by torturing Infection Forms perhaps? If : that is the case, then how did Installation 04a work, unless the Ark had : Infection Forms as part of the "ingredients" for building a : Halo? :) I think the fact that there were wasn't any such place, or at least that theorizing about one is a bit of a stretch, is the best indication that that's not the case. We can replicate some of the simpler body functions today (albeit not really those of the nervous system). The forerunner were exponentially more advanced than us, so imagine what they could have done. And they had a few centuries, if I'm not mistaken, of fighting the flood to develop such a replication. Think about how far humans have come since 1700. : I think Louis is right - there is probably no "canon" explanation
I agree, I don't think there is
And yes, I think it was Clarke
