Their police don't even use firearms, they : call in the equivalent of SWAT teams to deal with people armed : with guns. The theory is that once the police start using guns, : then everyone else will too. I love England and I do feel safer there. Unfortunately, America has something like a 200 year supply of weapons already on the street. Although it's true that most crimes are committed with recently purchased guns, this would surely change if the supply were curtailed. The saying, "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns," is sadly true over here. The supply of ammo, on the other hand, is much more practical to regulate. I would strongly favor limitations on the purchase of ammo, and the use of unique identifies that could absolutely trace every bullet back to the purchaser - although the NRA would almost certainly oppose it. What a horrible imposition on our "rights" - to be able to trace responsibility from the bullet that murders someone.
