	In Response To: Re: Rubicon Volunteers - Science Stands Alone (Agent Cletus) Wow - when I started this thread, I had no idea that it would take off this way. It seems pretty clear that the majority of people who read this and are willing to take the time to post have a good understanding of the scientific method. Unfortunately in the real world, there are a lot of people like Cletus - not offense intended. Science comes from the Latin word, Scio, which means, "I know." Science is the pursuit of knowledge, and it implies a process of generating and testing hypotheses. So long as the science is sound, it will stand alone. It will not bend to an individual's will unless they corrupt it with a flawed method. For the lay public, however, science is a realm that is no less mysterious than religion. People take much of science on faith, much as they do God, as it is beyond their understanding. To many, the scientific method is meaningless. They only see the end products, and they fear the unknown - radiated foods, genetically engineered plants etc., which they see as posing grave dangers because they do not understand the underlying science. Which is not to say that some of these things cannot be dangerous - but that is usually not the result of science, but a scientific process cut short by individual or corporate greed. And that is what gives science a black eye. I hope that this thread will end soon. And I definitely think that the U.S. Constitution, the NRA and Irak are really stretching the discussion, although I largely agree with Tru7h. I think that it is good that we had this discussion on science versus metascience and the sanctity of the scientific method, as this really underlies the point of the plot in Rubicon. Now, I really need to get back to work. I'll post the Frog levels, hopefully, over the weekend.
