I am a practicing archaeologist and I teach science at a university. The two main camps are Creationists and scientists. There is just as much support for the theory of evolution as there is for Einstein's theory of gravity or the germ theory of disease (i.e., overwhelming). And aside from this, the facts of evolution are present (i.e. descent with modification from common ancestors, long history of the earth, basic geology and chemistry, etc.). Creationists do NOT use the scientific method. There is no debate among scientists (or much of the rest of the world). The point is not whether : evolution or creation is the moving force of life: the point is that each : camp bitterly denouces the other *for reasons of ideology* (!!!) No, no, no. Scientists disapprove of creationists because IT IS NOT SCIENCE. Metaphysics can never be examined by the scientific method. The statement "God did it" is scientifically meaningless. Any explanation that can explain everything explains nothing. I have dealt with creationists many times over and typically their fear of the fact and theory of evolution is that they feel that it undermines a literal interpretation of the bible, which will (in their mind) result in anarchy and immorality. They fail to understand that science informs us about what IS, not what OUGHT to be. So : science doesn't stand alone. It sits as one of the many tools of the Self. : And self is the only thing that stands alone. : Also look at research and development. Admitedly, many scientifc discoveries : were made by accident. Most are not, however. They are made through hard work and persistence.
