In Response To: Re: So you guys want specifics on game design eh.. (General Vagueness) : That's exactly what he was talking about, we have a new game coming out in : just under a year. Not what I am talking about. I don't mean "a version of Halo for competitive gamers" I mean "a completely different game. Let's face it, as Wu mentioned elsewhere, the elements of Halo 1 that made it the temporary darling of fans of competitive gaming were unintentional and remedied in later versions of the game. I sincerely doubt Bungie has a strong intention to return to those design elements. Those design elements that they did feel warranted a return were featured in ODST, and that game seems to be drawing even more ire from this particular crowd than H3 did. : It looks like you can't decide whether changing the mechanics would just be a
: I think we could use another definition of terms from both of you. What, granularity? : That last line baffles me. As for before that, again definition of terms, but
Yes, I know you do. I don't, and they don't, and the marketplace has vindicated their viewpoint with just about every metric that you can possibly use. I think it is time to admit: Bungie is not making games for you, at least, not games that cater to these specific elements which you want changed. You are spitting into the wind. : At least half of your response qualifies but I feel the above sections
Now who's resorting to rhetoric? Are either of you at least willing to admit the possibility that I am not turning things around in a stupid way, but merely making obvious responses to a line of thought which takes into account only your own personal preferences and desires and unjustifiably generalizing them for the whole audience? And that the audience might object to seeing that done-- over and over again the same way, with slightly different configurations of words? What am I holding a grudge about, exactly? You're honestly going to advance the opinion that our disagreement is somehow based on the idea that I have not given enough thought to the subject-- inferring that both you and HP have? I certainly don't think this thread has broken my calm but I suppose it might be threatening to. It certainly has me shaking my head. My fun is not your fun. It probably cannot be and most likely never will be. I do not find Starcraft fun. I do not find Counterstrike fun. If Halo becomes more like those two games, I would likely stop playing it. Those games exist. Other games like those exist. Gaming studios that adhere to the principles those games embody exist. Halo does not need to become like that. Deride it as a movie if you will. I still think that's inaccurate, but since we disagree anyway, that's not a big deal. I do not understand your obsessive urge to suggest that Halo be turned into something that its developers, that the majority of its fans, that nearly everything about its design suggests it is not trying to be. I suspect you are treating it, and this thread, like you treat your game: work at it long enough and eventually it becomes fun. Not everything works like that.
