Here's a greek style dialogue that just occured in IRC that spawned from reading my last post:

<HunterX11> good BR mechanics are superior to melee and grenade mechanics

<hawaiianpig> that's employing strategy in addition to execution
<HunterX11> yeah but nade/headshot is hard
<hawaiianpig> you could 4shot kill better than I could, but with better map positioning and grenade placement, I wont need to 4shot
<hawaiianpig> sure it's hard
<HunterX11> im just saying, taking out BRs lowers the skill ceiling
<HunterX11> obviously for you thats a bad thing but other people want that
<hawaiianpig> why do they want that
<hawaiianpig> what does that gain
<HunterX11> it makes it more casual
<HunterX11> sometimes it is more fun for a game to be a goat rope than a master skill competition
<hawaiianpig> skill ceiling height and the casulness of the game are not fundamentally entwined
<hawaiianpig> thats was a major point of the monster post
<HunterX11> im just saying that cool halo moments are typically non-traditional things involving nades and physics and vehiciles and stickies and stuff
<HunterX11> rather than headshots
<hawaiianpig> yes and that can co-exist with a high skill ceiling
<hawaiianpig> design choices that limit the ceiling do nothing but frustrate the top tier
<hawaiianpig> re: AR starts
<HunterX11> AR starts are more conducive to being a retard
<hawaiianpig> I'd contend that you can be a retard with BRs, then
<HunterX11> its more about the abiltiy of other people to stop you
<hawaiianpig> matchmaking
<HunterX11> i mean none of these are good arguments, im just saying

<hawaiianpig> and these are the arguments they bring up
<HunterX11> the only good argument is that AR starts make the BR a valuable thing and alter patterns of focusing on picking up weapons
<HunterX11> only realy applies to some maps though
<hawaiianpig> right, and I described how that devolves the game and places emphasis on the initial AR encounters
<hawaiianpig> first team to get map control gets the br!
<HunterX11> but say in CTF on valhalla, AR and BR are different games and i think both are worthwhile
<HunterX11> like in AR you can see people but not be able to engage them
<hawaiianpig> it depends on the availability of the BRs then
<HunterX11> smg on coag though what teh fuck bungie
<HunterX11> wasnt the idea of MLG playlists to kind of to allow self-segregation in matchmaking?
<hawaiianpig> yeah actually
<hawaiianpig> that really wasnt a bad idea and it worked
