In the Halo Graphic Novel, Rtas 'Vadum has to fight through numerous animals infected by the Flood aboard the agricultural ship the Infinite Succor. This completely shatters the theory that Flood can only infect self-aware, advanced races. In the HGN, the entire hunting ground was infected.
