They are crummy anti-Flood weapons :-) : They are hardly woth taking over as they are so easy to kill and their : weapons are not very effective against Flood. obviously you have not read Ghosts of Onyx In GoO you really get an idea of how amazingly insane sentinels are The sentinels on Onyx were a different type of sentinel than seen in the games but they were still sentinels. they can combine (with exponential boosts to the power of their beams and shields) to the point where they can take out a covenant capital ship with one blast and sustain no damage themselves
