Rampancy was another area. It is described in some detail in the Marathon backstory as a known affliction that affects AIs when given unlimited space to expand.

However, although the word is never used, Halo's backstory describes a somewhat similar affliction that affects so-called "smart AIs" like Cortana. The difference is the results-- Durandal is driven mad with power and ambition, while for Cortana, this limits her lifespan to seven years.

There is mild hinting at some kind of effect that being in the Core has on Cortana (heh.. who put the Core in Cortana?) but so far she's expressed no desire to escape the closure of the universe and become god.

In short, "rampancy" as such probably doesn't exist in the Halo backstory, and if it does, it doesn't look as it did in Marathon. Your usage of the term, as well as Enkidu's behavior, tipped me off that this was going in a direction that Bungie had already said they wouldn't go-- literally combining elements of the two stories.

It's all arguable, of course, but that's part of how I drew my conclusion that this wasn't canon. Not so much stark contradictions of what was already known, but apprehensions that some of the things in the Enkidu story would be things Bungie would probably avoid, given what they had done in the past and the way they described the demarcation between the Marathon and Halo universes.
