Well I was duped too, I thought that the Halo Story guys did this all. Their lack of Enkidu mentions threw me for a loop. You'd think if they weren't in on it, they would have posted something in the news. I've also seen similar writings from Finn as well. Certainly if it was official Bungie cannon, it would have made the story page, mnemesis on vacation or not. I sympathize with you, it seems like you're either in the know or you are an outsider kind of feeling, but you know you can't please everyone all the time. Instead of dwelling on the feelings of distrust and thinking that Bungie.org has come to mislead us... what of the converse, that this was a big wake up call. Speculation, the Bungie community in general, has become watered down. Bungie fans started smaller, a much more tight knit community. From what I gather, speculation was a big part of it from the physics of how things would work in real life to the mountains of theories and stories. Over the years, speculation changed, became watered down for the masses. Very few outstanding theories, mainly, for one, because much of it had been said before and further investigation without much new information from Bungie just led to conclusions that we just don't have enough information to know. The books were written well, but did not really bring about speculations like the past, instead they sort of filled in some of the blanks and helped with character development. What is watered down speculation you might ask... watered down speculation is good speculation that just covers the basics and yearns for Bungie to fill in the blanks with a definitive answer. Like, for example, stating that Halo has the same gravity and atmosphere as Earth and speculating that Halo was designed to accomodate Earth type creatures. This speculation is great, but watered down because we can't fill in the blanks. Great speculation but it leads us no where further than what we already knew. Only Bungie, at this point, can tell us the answer. Compare this to a theory that the Marathon symbol on 343 Guilty Spark is not just a game Easter Egg, but instead because 343 GS is from the Marathon universe. Sure it could be totally non-sense to believe that 343 GS is really from Marathon, but Bungie doesn't have to fill in the blanks. The fans participate and fill in the blanks, the theory lives on in further speculations with the whole concept of a Marathon to Halo tie in. Information long hidden, discarded, or just overlooked creeps out of the wood work and is brought in as supporting or disproving evidence. So Enkidu brought out that fan based old-style speculation in many, no help from Bungie, just us doing our best. A big wake up call is what I call it. |
