In Response To: Re: Enkidu flames and kudos HERE, please. (Rams) : Yes they never said "This is from Bungie" but they never said it
Let me be absolutely, 100% clear on this one point: When I posted the first news post about Enkidu, I'd gone to some lengths to help Steve make it look professional... but I had NO CLUE folks would think it came from Bungie. In fact, I was worried that folks would think it came from Wideload since we released it the night before Wideload went public, and Matt Soell (an integral part of the Cortana Letters project) was known to be working on Wideload. I even asked Miguel to quash that part of the story, because THAT I didn't think needed to be explored; I didn't want to get off on the wrong foot with a brand-new company made up of people I liked. It never occurred to me that folks would think it was coming from Bungie. Once that sort of speculation started, I simply sat back and watched, amused. No, I had no intention of ruining the fun by telling people they were on the wrong track - it was a mystery, for god's sake! The whole POINT of it was that folks were supposed to investigate and try to figure out what it was all about! There is NOTHING in my initial post that hints that Bungie might have been behind this - because I had no idea people might believe this. : As I said in my Blog post this would be the same as me Photoshoping a Halo 2
If your photoshop skills are good enough to get by the skeptics in the community, more power to you. Yes, it's true that if you said 'we found this on the internet' (or something similarly vague), and folks later determined it was fake, you'd either have to own up, or lose credibility... but that's EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED HERE; once the game was over, Steve owned up. Your need for instant gratification (is it real? Is the entire thing posted today?) is the only thing that's blinding you from seeing this. : Ok I see you have gone back to your original statement. Whats wrong with it
Read the responses in this thread, Rams. The OVERWHELMING majority of them are NOT complaining that their time was wasted - they're thanking Steve for a fun game. [a bunch of silly stuff deleted] : So it would be ok then for say ABC to make a movie that resembles it's news
You should ask Orson Welles these questions. ;) : No not lied to (which is why I said lied to OR mislead). People where mislead
I can't let this pass. So if someone misinterprets ambiguous data, they're being mislead? Do you know how to think for yourself? (Don't tell me that you didn't even read the terminals, you're just speaking for others here, because that's EXACTLY THE PROBLEM - folks need to THINK FOR THEMSELVES. You're telling me that the Halo community is so stupid they have to be spoonfed their information in small, easily-digestible chunks. Nice way to talk about the community you say you 'love'.) Me - I think they're a pretty diverse group, and some of 'em really get into puzzle-solving. So occasionally we give 'em puzzles to solve. This isn't the first (we did the Glyph puzzle a couple of years ago, and the Great Halo Scavenger Hunt had some puzzle aspects to it), and it won't be the last. To many of us, this is the sort of thing Bungie inspires us to play with. I'm sorry it doesn't work for you. : It was April fools for christ sake and the situation he presented wasn't
Nice - because YOU didn't believe it, it wasn't plausible. I've got hundreds of emails from folks who would disagree with you. I wonder... is all your ranting (and you say you're just debating here, but you wrote a friggin' rant for you blog, there's no other word for it) simply because you got fooled? Are you annoyed that you were taken in and 'wasted your time' posting news to your site about what turned out to be just a fan fiction? Hmm... : Well YOU don't care and that's great. But what about the people who did?
I know you can't be bothered to read the terminals, Rams, but you should direct whoever you're speaking for here to read Steve's afterward. He DOES apologize to those who feel betrayed.
