In Response To: Re: Enkidu flames and kudos HERE, please. (Rams) : Well I like you guys don't have all the time in the world to just debate back
: Many people in the Halo community including a couple I've debated with here
: So that's how I feel and if you feel different that's fine. As Louis said
There's a big difference here. People who may have not been pleased either a) have forgotten all about the damn thing because it wasn't 'spelled out' so why bother b) actually allowed OTHER people's good feelings to let them realize that hey, maybe it wasn't such a bad thing after all... you know, actually ALLOWING their feelings to change and not stubbornly hold on to the same opinion over and over again. How's that for 'owning up'? After all, I think folks, when presented with a choice of feeling good over feeling pissy will usually want to pick good. (but hey, maybe I'm a moron for being so naive) and then we have c) where folks decide to piss all over the good thoughts and cheering that has occurred, incessantly, like - not stopping to think about it beyond their own experience of it (or even their own friends). I know, as has been made painfully clear in the past, you stick to your guns and you DO NOT BUDGE, not an inch. OK, that's fine. As you say, we're all different kinds of people. But guess what Rams, if I thought something you did was wrong, or if in the future I though something BGH did was wrong, if I actually *WEIGHED* it on a scale of who-cares to this-is-damn-important, it would take alot of percieved maliciousness for me to STEP up and make a big stink. ABOUT HALO, A VIDEO GAME. Yes, I know this community is second to none when it comes to its strength and passion and maturity, etc., but I still have to 'fess up that I'm interfacing with this community 90% of the time through a computer screen and that I live with 3 real human beings that mean a helluva lot more than whatever goes on here. So my scale of what's worth making a stink over is different from most. You present several explanations, reasonings, etc., to explain why you feel the way you do, yet in the end, I can't help thinking this is just over a a bunch of screens of text. Some thought it was wonderful enough to congratulate the author, etc. Some others think it was stupid enough a 'deception' that it warrants postings on blogs, and anonymous commentary on forums to buttress this small but still consequential (one assumes) feeling of having the wool pulled over their eyes. In the words of the pubescent chicks that hang out in the mall: "Whatever" Before I end this post, I'd like to go on record with this: I think Louis has PLENTY of reserves of respect for what he has done over the years that something like this... it's "negative" impact as you have painted it, can be *easily* swallowed. I'm sure this episode has just completely tarnished HBO and Louis and from now on HBO will not be considered a credible source of information when it comes to Bungie's Halo game series. Yes, I'm being sarcastic. So keep making equations over what happened here with (stuff that I just deleted because I know you won't stop yourself from saying 'but but but that's not what I meant, you're twisting my words') because honestly it is vexatious enough that it's not helping your position at all, if in fact you are trying to convince us of your point in the first place. It sounds like all you really want is Louis to write or say "I made a mistake." The problem is that he really didn't, even with all the examples you cite. The funny thing is, with all this, I'm really interested in hooking up with you and getting to know you as a person instead of the pessimist I perceive you to be. Maybe at the next E3 or fan gathering... though if I recall, for some reason you think such things are a waste of time or something. Maybe I'm mistaken. |
