Wow... really? Damn, you must have needed more coffee that day :)
My first reactions were that this may or may not be from Bungie, and that if it turned out not to be, people were going to be pissed.
Then I got sidetracked myself by the possible Wideload connection, but Matt cleared that up. Then I asked Bungie and they denied it, but I kept that to myself.
So I suppose I'm just as much to blame, but I also felt that it was basically a fun thing going on-- like having figured out a puzzle and not posting the solution in the forum, spoiling it for everybody else.

Right, but your silence itself suggested it. Besides, if Bungie were going to do such a thing, HBO would be a likely vehicle, and you'd likely not comment on it. So your behavior fit that version of events

Yeah, I agree. I have to admit my interest waned a bit after I knew it wasn't really from Bungie (but then again I was also busy at that time as well.)
As for wasted time-- sheesh, people, this are websites about a video game. How the heck do you distinguish between hours wasted one way and hours wasted another? :-)

Point taken-- although I do say that it was predictable that your lack of reaction was interpreted as your complicity. They think you know what goes on at Bungie, they think they'd use HBO to do something like this (where did the Cortana Letters go to?) and they think you'd not comment on it if it did.
If something like this went on at another site, with you unawares-- would you go along with the joke, or try to find out where it came from?
I generally agree that this isn't worth getting upset about-- just that it should have been predictable that people would get upset, not just with the author, but also with you, Wu :)
