In Response To: My Theory on the Legendary Ending *kinda long* (Neloms) To entertain the Time Travel Theory for a moment: The only way for this to make any sense and support the H1-H3 timeline is if either A) Forerunner, the Flood, and the Rings all already exist and that sequence of events is already set in motion or B) MC and Cortana either dont tell Forerunner about the Flood (because they dont know they are in the past, or dont know its Forerunner, or both) or tell them but Forerunner ignore them and create the Flood anyway. B seems less likely than A. Forerunner clearly wasnt reckless enough to support B. So lets go with A. Why then, if MC goes back in time knowing everything that happens in the future (Evens of H1-H3) does he bother to fire the rings the first time knowing it will fail? It makes more sense that 343GS's comments in Halo refer to MC in a more general way, meaning 'you' is 'your species' or in the case where 'you' is clearly personal, 343GS mistakes MC for the Forerunner responsible for firing the rings the first time. Visually, its possible MC very closely resembles Forerunner. 343GS could even have the capacity to analyze chiefs DNA or brainwaves to compare him to Forerunner and find him similar enough to be considered 'a reclaimer'. So a Forerunner fires the rings the first time. 100,000 years in the future a desecendant of Forerunner close enough in DNA structure or brain function to be considered a reclaimer arrives on the ring in what seems to 343GS to be an attempt to fire the ring again, hense: “Why would you hesitate to do what you have already done?” “But you already knew that. I mean, how couldn't you?” MC has no idea what 343GS is talking about, H1-H3 ensue, and the Legendary Ending to H3 is explained by a 2nd civilization descended from Forerunner. Its even possible that the planet seen is inhabited by Humanity who is now harnessing Forerunner technology for its own advancement.
