What if Didact and the other surviving forerunners were made into a monitor AIs after the rings' activation? I know it's far-fetched, but that way chief wouldn't recognise Spark in the past, yet the AI (Being way more advanced than humanity's) could 'remember' choice elements of it's forerunner life. Knowledge of the Ark could have been 'limited' artificially. It could also explain where the forerunners went! Make sense?
