In Response To: My Theory on the Legendary Ending *kinda long* (Neloms) : This is exemplified in the following lines of dialogue from Guilty Spark in : Halo 1 (Two Betrayals): “Technically, this installation's pulse has a : maximum effective radius of twenty-five thousand light years. But, once : the others follow suit, this galaxy will be quite devoid of life, or at : least any life with sufficient biomass to sustain the flood. (pause) But : you already knew that. I mean, how couldn't you?” : “Why would you hesitate to do what you have already done?” : “Last time, you asked me, if it was my choice, would I do it? Having : considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed.” UNSC Trooper apparently didn't understand this: "Despite the theory's credibility, there are multiple issues that don't add up, one of them being the Chief apparently not recognizing Guilty Spark even though they might have met in the past." In my mind, this is how it'd work: If the Chief was sent back in time, he is already continuing his life, not retracting at all. If he's been sent back in the past (let's say) ten years, that means there are two Chiefs in world. The theory calls for 100,000 BC or so. Chief is still aging and such, and once he activates the Ark he destroys all life and, at some point in there, he dies. He cannot recognize Guilty Spark in Halo 1 simply because HE hasn't met Spark yet: he was thrown into the past, and finished out his life there. In short, it's impossible to recognize someone you've never met or seen. But later in your life, if you meet an earlier version of that someone, it's not wrong to converse with them... Hopefully I'm not too confusing.
As for an earlier theory that the Chief would be cautionary to a Spark he will eventually kill, I don't think so. Maybe he'd recognize that he's in the past, and the machine has no way of knowing what Chief would ever do. Not saying that the Chief would ever Forgive & Forget, but maybe he should leave it in the past. ;D Anyway, that's my two cents.
