Sorry, but it's been a long time since I : posted here and I notice I'm essentially bumping back this old thread. : One thing that makes me think that Chief did go back in time- apart from the : fact that Spark recognizes him- is that the Covenant AI found in First : Strike resembled Cortana, only copied again and again and with defects : induced by multiple copying. No explanation is given for why something : copied from Cortana should exist in that timeframe. : It also raises the possibility that some of Cortana's programming went back : to the past- and perhaps the effects of Cortana's rampancy got to be felt : all the way in the past rather than in the future? If any of the : not-too-good sections of code were adapted into Forerunner AIs, there : would be significant issues, so as to speak.
