We may have overlooked one little plot issue | |

In Response To: Gender in Halo 2 (response to DanteThePoet) LONG (Cody Miller) : At first it would seem that women are given equal status in the Halo : universe. With Halo 2 in particular, we fight along side female marines, : and no particular fuss is made. These marines are not sexualized; in fact : they closely resemble their male counterparts. However, it is quite ironic : that in order to gain equality, women must take on traditionally masculine : roles. The female marines do not seem to have much femininity left, as : many such feminine traits are obscured by their costumes, and military : behavior. The very idea of a soldier and a fighter is traditionally : masculine, and so while these women gain equality, they do it at the : expense of their feminine identity. I forgot to add this in my previous post: Has anyone wondered about the reasoning behind the increased presence of female marines in Halo2's story over HaloCE? The most memorable female marine in HaloCE was the escape pod pilot (Dont know what it is, but we are landing on it). Halo2 shows us more female characters than it's predecessor. What I was thinking was this: In Halo2, Earth is in immediate jeopardy, whereas in HaloCE, all of the missions are 'away' so to speak. Perhaps it was a question of lack of available marines to counter the alien invasion? Was earth ready for such an invasion, or was it's military designed more as a peacekeeper before the Covenant? If you dont have enough men to do the job, then there are only two options: Create synthetic military units or recruit women (or pull them from behind the lines positions such as military office/health or whatever). In times past (in real life), there were many instances where a nation turned to it's women in times of need. It may simply be a question of personnel logistics, not role playing.
