In Response To: Re: Femininity eh?? (Jillybean)
Ahh Scotland, where the young and the violent, the strong and arrogant, those who can kick lesser people through walls, the true alpha males, go to get the s**t kicked out of them by scottish people, who as it turns out a probably tougher for wearing skirts, especially with the national flower being a thistle.
Which actually leads me to a kinda valid and relevent point on topic.
Most of this does actually depend on what is classed as 'feminine' as you say.
The skirt, these days a very womanly peice of clothing, have been considered in
the form of the kilt as a masculine thing, if only cos running around in the cold with
ya nadgers a swingin is quite a risk. (I wore a Welsh variantion (basically the same,
but a different pattern) to a relative's wedding in north wales in december. I think I
barely avoided frostbite :>)
most of the classical cultures (greeks, romans etc) wore skirts, and the romans for
one had a damn successul military career. The sporran (the bit on the front of a kilt)
is scottish gaelic for purse- another feminine item.
the Male emperor penguin incubates and takes care of the egg with the chick inside,
while the female goes to get food. So the bloke mothers and takes care of the kid,
a steriotypically feminine thing, while the woman goes to get food, killing fish, hunting,
a steriotypically masculine thing to do.
The suffragettes were a feminist movement in Britain, who did some very feminine things (sarcasm)
ike chucked bricks through windows, chained themselves to railings shouting to give women
voting rights, and one perticular suffragette threw themself at the king's horse, killing herself
(a very noble and was believed deliberate sacrafice, showing the woman's devotion to her cause,
until it was discovered that she hada return ticket in her purse, where it turned out she thought she
could stop a horse going 30mph by just grabbing it, mmm...
Things that were once considered masculine are now feminine. its all POV.
We've got a good few years between now and 2552, things change, femininity probably being foremost.
Maybe women got the upper hand in 2400, and used men for nothing more than cooking and baby making,
and called us totty and had mags of men with certain organs that are nearly physically impossible.
Then the men finally had enough, chained themselves to railing, burned their jockstraps as a symbol for
releasing the evil feminine shackles forced upon men, demanding to be treated as equals.
Well you never know.
