In Response To: Re: Gender in Halo 2 (response to DanteThePoet) LO (Jillybean) : I don't care much about the appearance of the marines, Miranda, Cortana - : they can be as sexy or as androgynous as they like. But this point really : bugs me. Why can't one of the marines say "Do you like what I've : done with my hair?" or "Covenant breath! Good for the : pores!" Why can't the female marines vocally accept that they're : female, that they might be attractive, and not have a problem with it? The : hard as tacks attitude is silly - and unrealistic. What is so wrong about : having women happy with their sex and proud to flaunt it. I lament the : loss of the Spice Girls and the rise of Avril Lavigne. Whether you lament it or not, that's how CURRENT marines act; I suppose you could be sad that in 500 years, we haven't become more enlightened and allowed our female military personnel be more female... but the simple fact is, in TODAY'S military (the US at least, but probably others), women DO need to deemphasize their femininity in order to maintain respect as a warrior. It seems that's the type of female marine Bungie modeled.
