In Response To: Why? (Pinkuh) : I honestly want to laugh at you all right now... : But I would first like to take a shot at Jilly... : I am not Feminine at ALL. Those female marines? They are me. I don't talk
: Arguing that the female marines need to be more "Female" is saying
: So please, before you pick up the banner for the various women that toddle
I'm pretty sure Jilly wouldn't want that. In fact, I think what she was saying is that the female marines (and the male ones for that matter) are decideldy un-feminine and are even defensive about their sexuality. It's that defensiveness that seems weird (at least to Jilly, and maybe to me, too). Why can't they ALSO be demonstrative about femininity, or at least not aggressively hiding/denying it? : As for the people Arguing that Bungie "Wouldn't put those kind of
Oh this stuff is definitely there, whether "Bungie" (whoever that is) wanted to put it there or not. : Anyhow, I hate it when people start bitching about gender lines. so I'll go
Fair enough. It is interesting, though, as Jilly pointed out, that there are now (in Halo 2) female characters in the game, but still not much femininity. As Wu and others have pointed out, this may just be because war is not particularly feminine. (That being said, the Covenant is actually somewhat feminine: the prophets most clearly with their high degree of ornamentation, their flowing robes, and their physical weakness, but also the grace of the elites, and the overall color-scheme.) None of this, of course, negates Cody's original point that the game is designed around/for the male gaze.
