Say a house is on fire and I run in and find two unconscious people. I can only move one of them at a time because they are too big for me. I get one of them out of fire and save them, but before I can go into the burning house to save the other, the house collapses and burns the body. I could have tried to save both at the same time, but I would end up dead too, being that I would be moving too slow to get out in time. Saving the one makes me a hero in the eyes of many. Failing to save the other is somewhat forgivable because I did what I could do, my best. What if now I find out that because of my own previous neglect, the house fire started in the first place. I indirectly caused the fire and thus the death of the one I could not save. The death of the one I could not save may burn deep into me as regret. Context can mean everything. Halsey's actions have a context, did she do it because she knew it was needed to save the human race? Bear in mind that the Spartans IIs were not taken from their parents with ONI knowing of the war with the Covenant. If anything the excuse was to use them in situations such as mining colonies, close quarters combat, to fight rebel factions. Hardly something to justify "Saving the Earth". Last time I looked, the rebels did not have the fire power or the will to take over the Earth or destroy all of humanity. So ask, did ONI, e.g. Dr. Halsey know the war was coming before it did? If so, how did she know? What do we really know? What context does drive the evil deeds? :
