I guess I was a bit unclear. What I meant was from a mortals view, life is finite with hope of something more. From an immortal's view, life could be seen more as a cycle. For an immortal to live in a mortal universe, it becomes a possibility that they become part of this cycle. For instance, the changing of the seasons. Winter comes and goes but it never dies as it is part of a cycle. For Cortana to be around for a very long time, she must accept that she will change. But change means risk and unpredictable outcomes. What is to keep her from going crazy (or more insane than she already is, added this for Jilly)? If you could change but still have some guarentee of a cycle, then immortality is not so uncertain. To come full circle. What happened to the duplicates of Cortana? Did they live forever? No. This proves that Cortana is not able to produce life in the sense that she cannot become immortal through her own means. Lots of questions... What Gravemind has perhaps is the grasp of immortality from the view point of an immortal. TO LIVE LIFE THROUGH OTHERS. The Flood is said to be a hive mind, this ability to live through others yet be a separate independent being is a form of immortality. One with a high price, but look at the Flood. No individual matters. Like the coming and going of seasons, the Flood consume, food goes away, food comes back, the Flood consumes again, life goes away... an immortal cycle of life. Immortality that Cortana may be tempted with is to be an independent being yet have "children" through which she can live her life immortal. None of the individuals matter because it is a cycle as long as one lives, the cycle continues. The price is that it dilutes Cortana, corrupts her. Immortality has a price.
