In Response To: Re: Context schmontext (Wado SG) Context still applies here - At her point of creation, Cortana had all the memories of Halsey and access to all the information in the UNSC (and to some extent ONI) databases. In this context, she may still carry on with Halsey's viewpoint of acceptable losses. From here on in, there are factors that can influence Cortana's decision making process - maybe even redeem her in Jillybean's point of view :P - and these include:
Context is incredibly important if we are trying to figure out someone's motivations. Yet context only provides us with a "Yardstick of Evilness" on which to judge the evil of an act. What many forget is that the lesser of two evils is still an evil. For the record, I side with Jilly on the fact that the SPARTAN program was built on stereotypically evil stuff (lies, death, mutilation and more death) - BUT Cortana is not Halsey, Jilly. Her experiences have changed her (I don't know about an AI, but I'd be pretty changed after spending some time fighting aliens on a giant other-alien-owned ring. Then getting attacked by mutated aliens.) and she could still hang in the balance as far as the Great Yardstick Of Evilness is concerned. Please reply if that made much (if any) sense. |
