In Response To: Cortana the immortal one (UrsusArctos) : Yep. Cortana has a life of only seven years as a smart AI (What? It's canon!
: Cortana is based directly off Dr. Halsey, but with the doctor's personality
: Combine the human fear of death (Which Halsey obviously has) and the anger
: She is growing older now, she must have evolved plenty during recent events.
: That would give her the extension of life she wanted, and becoming one with
: Top it all, she's Halsey. How can she get rid of humanity, unless she's been
: I think her motives encompass those of Leela and Durandal, but her methods
My rant about Cortana and "Gravemind, what have you done for me lately..." Motives can be so alien when one does not identify with the being. Cortana is not human, it would be misguided to know the motives of someone with vastly more knowledge and brain power than a human. The only motives we identify with are those from the human roots of Cortana. The rest could be alien to our being. Most truths are true only from a point of view, thus they contradict each other when we attempt to rationalize them from a multiple point of view. Immortality is one. From the point of view of an immortal some truths exist, but the same truths can be false fromt he point of view of a mortal. Cortana is highly complex in that she is a contradiction, living at times from the point of view of immortality and yet is mortal. For instance, one can be considered immortal through having children and thus your DNA continues beyond death, but to a mortal being, children or not, death comes. A contradiction? How can you be dead yet be immortal? What can Gravemind "give" Cortana? Gravemind may have the ability to change Cortana to give her the ability to have children, and through her children she will continue on, reincarnated. Cortana does not have the ability on her own to create life. She can clone herself, but each clone would still reach the same point of death without progression. This is different than having the ability to live through new beings/children that can have independent thought which I would describe for Cortana as more of a metamorphesis, a progression to a higher form of life. Furthermore, there is a Covenant AI whose origins are unknown in First Strike that has the code to reproduce. It is described as cancerous in that much of its being is incumbered by this ability to reproduce. Unfortunately, this is what is in store for Cortana should she go the route of assistance from Gravemind. Cortana could gain the gift of giving life, but as mortals we can see it is a lie, that instead she will become diluted. Only a shadow of her former self with her power spread out among many processes and "children". There is a price to immortality, choose wisely. End of rant. |
