Yeah, because a 4 year old is fully capable of making that kind of decision. Plus, they volunteered with the illusion they'd become full-fledged Spartans like Kurt, you know, not the kind that gets issued with cheap-ass armor and sent on missions that lead to their certain deaths. Which one is really better, 900+ child suicide soldiers, the majority of which are killed, or 75 kids, half of whom get the best gear and training while the other half gets crippled? I personally don't think either of them was morally better - quantifying human suffering like that is pointless - but to argue that Parangosky was somehow a more noble figure than Halsey is just preposterous. No matter how saintly KT chooses to portray her, you don't earn the reputation of the most dangerous human alive for nothing. : Halsey did it simply because she could. Plain and simple. She claims it was : for the betterment of mankind but so did Josef Mengele. Halsey kidnapped : children, made disposable clones and tortured 75 children ultimately : killing half. This is only true if you ignore the very concrete threat of an interstellar apocalypse. I don't think Halsey or anyone else could've convinced the UNSC leadership to let go of the colonies (and it seems a lot of the Innie leaders had selfish motives beyond mere independence anyway!), so it was a choice between human death tolls in the billions or 75 families ruined. Also, ONI was just as guilty as Halsey was, if not more so, for commissioning and funding the program. And the most important part is, they would've done it anyway if Halsey chose to quit. KT just likes to shift all the blame on Halsey, because you know, she's a scientist with a genius-level intellect so she's obviously more guilty than anyone else. And yes, she - they! - also did it because they could, but that was probably the least pressing reason. : Everyone seems to take Halseys own testimony and her diary as proof of her : good intentions, but there is a line in Glasslands that sticks out to me : that suggests that Halsey might be off her rocker. Parangosky mentions the : journal to Osman. [Paraphrasing here] Osman says something about it's : contents and Parangosky says "She rewrites her own history as she : goes." Is Halsey changing things in the journal? Is she crazier than : we think she is? Questions.... There's a lot of lines in Glasslands which paint Halsey as a complete nutjob. Its' a different thing entirely whether you choose to take it all at face value.
