Firstly, I think you should speak for yourself, and not all science fiction fans, and secondly, honestly, I'm wondering what's wrong with you if the book makes you feel like you're an awful person, because usually you can't do that to someone that doesn't believe it on some level, either beforehand or once they're shown the evidence and logic behind that conclusion. If the objective stuff and characterization you mention-- that several people have mentioned-- was actually changed*, then I'm not interested in picking up any of the books, new or old, which would be a shame. * I know in the preview there was an Elite saying "as the humans say" and I think I remember a mention of dollars, so I'm inclined to believe it
