In Response To: Why I Hate Glasslands (Train Dodger) And I won't go into paragraphs about it having only read Glasslands once, when it came out. (Though I am actually re-reading it now) Halsey is my favorite character in the series, or at least one of them. Because she's a complicated character. Romanticism doesn't lend well to complications and with a character like Halsey who did have to do horrible things to people to save lives.... That can't be romanticized. I agree, the Rebellion was built up by dictators and evil men, but not all of the rebellion felt that way. It was societal collapse and something needed to stop it. But children are something people hold sacred, and Halsey broke sanctity by breaking children and turning them into soldier-machines. That's simply not a forgivable thing. While the outcome may have been worth it, it still something she has to answer to. Also. I disagree with your views on how the Covenant fell and how much Chief had to do with it. Remember, his killing of Regret may have started the Schism, but Truth wanted Regret dead as well and was about to do so himself, and he did also let Mercy alone to die via Flood. Chief stirred up a mess of trouble, I agree, but Truth was already doing so. It would have likely gone down a similar route if Chief hadn't killed Regret. I'd say the Arbiter had more a hand in it than he did. In Halo 2, the Arbiter got most of the major plot events while Chief was focused on killing and getting off ships and rings, Arbiter was the one who actively dealt with the Schism and discovering the truth of the Forerunners.
