I doubt it. Minor spoilers for 'The Thursday War', but there's a scene where a jiralhanae bomb takes out some sangheili, pissing off the sangheili attatched to Phillips. Kind of paraphrasing, but the implication goes that this act is horrible because it's not honourable. But glassing worlds and killing millions? Perfectly acceptable-humans fight, lose, die. Sangheili morals in a nutshell. At least that's the impression I got. : Maybe KT will address this. As far as the Arbiter's concerned, I doubt it. I actually suspect he'll be killed off by the trilogy's end. Go figure. : In our current society being a whistle blower is more of an option. But the : human government in Halo is more dominated by the military than what we : are used to. I'm pretty sure that being a whistle blower is less of an : option in that society. : Its probably too strong to call the human government totalitarian but I don't : think that the Haloverse human society is a healthy place to live. The : society seems a bit sick. Its not good to have the military running the : show and its worrying to think that Halsey's project could actually have : been considered and done. Are there any people in the military here? Would : you take place in operations that steal your own citizen's children. Would : you stay silent if you knew about it? What if it happened during the : height of the cold war? Would that have made a difference? To be fair to humanity in the setting, they've been under military rule for nearly three decades. Come 'Glasslands', power seems to have returned to the UEG (as opposed to the UNSC). But it does strike me as a militaristic society inherantly. Heck, they even send soldiers on the 'Odyssey' in early colonization. Because...you know, we need guns to protect us from hostile atmospheres. And of course, the military's still "bloated" over a century since the Rainforest Walls. Guess that's human society in the setting. UNSC presence established in the 22nd century, never leaves. : Apparently Frankie said that the UNSC was like Star Fleet (or was the : comparison with the Federation?). To my mind they seem like polar : opposites. What do you think? They're pretty much polar opposites, as you say. The Federation's done some morally dubious stuff (e.g. the ploy to get the Romulan Star Empire to join them against the Dominion) but it's very much the exception rather than the rule, Section 31 being a case in point. The situation with the Marquis was far less horrific than the Insurrection for instance. Likewise, Starfleet is far less militaristic. It can fight when it has to, and often has against various foes, but again, it's Starfleet's exception rather than the rule.
