Is it just : too long ago for anyone to really care that much about it? Is 9/11 a more : powerful influence? Well, that's just the thing. See, with the way the plot in the Halo expanded universe is structured, it's difficult to tell just what the Insurrectionists are rebelling over, anyhow. What singular cause unites them? The books rarely seem to go into any explicit detail. Is it over taxes? Laws? Trade? Unemployment? What are they fighting for? Why do they want independence to begin with? What are their motives? Why would they try and overthrow an (ostensibly) democratic and free society that provided them with the resources to start these colonies to begin with? As I put it in one of my comments, the Insurrectionists weren't so much a grassroots movement as they were "mostly led and inspired by defectors from the UNSC's military who wanted to live as warlords out on the fringes of society, running their own little kleptocracies while enjoying every possible form of contraband". As a matter of fact, that's exactly how the Spartans caught one of their leaders; by tracing the flow of luxury items right to his doorstep. I don't really equate the Innies to American revolutionaries. In fact, I tend to hold them in the same regard as the militia groups operating in the Darfur region of Sudan. Unruly, murderous mobs whose main concerns are plundering wealth and obtaining arms while doing things too unspeakable to print here.
